How it all started
The company’s founder, Dick Enrico, started the company after noting that most of the exercise equipment owned by friends was either gathering dust, hanging clothing, orbeing used as door stop. His idea was to give the equipment that wasn’t being used but was still in fantastic condition a second chance by selling it at a great discount over brand new equipment, thus giving people who were in the market fitness equipment a great value on top-quality, gently used equipment. He also offered a rental option to make the equipment more affordable to more people.
After three years selling, or renting solely used equipment, 2nd Wind Exercise Equipment added new equipment to its stores. Today, about 98 percent of the exercise equipment dealer’s inventory is new, while only 2 percent is used. The used equipment sold has to meet extremely stringent quality and value guidelines before being offered to the public. With stores in nine Midwest states, 2nd Wind is an industry leader with an excellent reputation.
