Celebrity Weight Loss

Celebrities are everywhere – constantly in the public eye, having fun, thin and beautiful. Everyone wants to look like them, but how do they lose so much weight so quickly? Usually not healthily. Celebrity weight loss – especially if it’s rapid – is often due to ill-advised dieting tactics that endanger their long-term health.

Skipping Meals

Starving themselves is a long tradition among celebrities, especially models. Paris Hilton has been known to drink Red Bull and water at famous Manhattan restaurants. Replacing food with stimulants like caffeine is a common tactic – instead of a meal, they guzzle coffee to give them energy and suppress appetite.

Using Drugs

Similar to drinking coffee instead of eating, some celebrities use drugs – both legal and not – to stay slim. Adderall, used to treat attention-deficit disorder, also suppress appetite. Paris Hilton takes it for her ADD; Britney Spears has also reportedly used it. Other celebrities take Clenbuterol, a drug normally used to treat horses, but which dangerously promotes fat-loss in people. And then there are the illegal drugs: after a car crash, cops famously found a “usable amount” of cocaine in Lindsay Lohan’s car.

Smoking

Tobacco suppresses appetite, which is why stars are often seen smoking. Katherine Heigl is a veritable chain-smoker, rarely photographed without a cigarette in hand. Some stars even wear nicotine patches – normally used to help one quit smoking – as a way to stop cravings.

Cut out Carbs

Many stars like Jessica Alba and Jennifer Lopez cut out the carbs when they want to lose weight. They eat healthy, lean proteins with lots of fruits and vegetables. Oprah famously avoids carbohydrates.

No Alcohol

Getting off alcohol is another weight loss trick, one that may surprise people given paparazzi photos of drunken celebrity antics. Eminem reportedly lost 28 pounds after going booze-free. Jennifer Lopez is another celeb who doesn’t drink alcohol.

Baby Food

Yes, that’s right: some celebrities eat baby food in order to limit portion sizes and control calories. Stars like Reese Witherspoon and Marcia Cross reportedly eat high-end baby food as nutritious, easy snacks.

People should remember that celebrities, unlike regular folks, don’t have day jobs. They can sleep in as late as they want, spend three hours a day with trainers, and have personal chefs cook what little they do eat. Given Americans’ busy lives, even if people could follow restrictive celebrity weight loss diets, they’d likely not have the energy to get through the day. It’s a nice dream, but it’s not healthy or realistic.
