Fitness Goals

Trying to motivate yourself to lose weight and get in shape can be difficult. Trying to motivate yourself without setting clear goals can be nearly impossible. Weight loss can be both slow and frustrating. It takes a lot of self-discipline and hard work. When you set fitness goals, it is easier to track your progress. If you have a lot of weight to lose, try and set smaller goals at first. Keep them realistic so that you will be able to meet them. Meeting even small goals can boost your self-esteem and help keep you committed to your program. Remember, you are not going to be able to lose fifty pounds overnight. Loosing two pounds a week is a reasonable rate of weight loss for most individuals. If you have any health conditions, talk to your doctor about your weight loss expectations so that you can make sure they are both reasonable and safe.

Sticking to Your Fitness Goals

If you want to commit yourself to fitness, there are a lot of life changes you will have to make. You will have to get more exercise, eat healthy food, and eliminate empty calories. All these changes can be overwhelming. A great way to keep yourself from feeling overwhelmed by your new commitment to fitness is to incorporate lifestyle changes into your other fitness goals. Make your goal for week one to eat three servings of vegetables a day. While you are learning about nutrition, do not worry about checking your weight on a scale. Spend that first month setting goals that help you learn to eat right. Then, move on to exercise. You need to develop new, healthy habits. Many people get so frustrated by the slow progress of weight loss that they give up. If this applies to you, focus instead on the other benefits of a healthy diet and regular exercise. Notice how much better your stomach feels after a healthy meal. Appreciate how much more energy you have from exercising regularly. Learn to appreciate a healthy diet and exercise and make them your new habits. The weight loss will come gradually and naturally.  When you set reasonable fitness goals, whether they are focused on diet, exercise, or weight loss, you can keep your eye on your goal. When you meet your goal, you will know that you are accomplishing something that will make you healthier and happier.
