To put it frankly, health & fitness are practically inseparable. Many people eat healthy, are able to stay thin and don’t smoke or drink alcohol. However, if you do not incorporate fitness into your daily lifestyle, how do you know that you’re healthy on the inside? This guide will touch on the importance of combining fitness with your already healthy lifestyle.
* Are you healthy to begin with?
Before addressing the benefits/importance of fitness, it is important to ask yourself one question – Am I healthy right now? The answer will differ case by case, but there are a few things you can do to make sure you are healthy without any confusing calculations.
1. Do you smoke? If so, don’t. Smoking is one of the worst habits in the world and can cause detrimental health issues. Although this certainly isn’t a statement put out by the FDA, if you smoke, you aren’t healthy.
2. Do you eat well? Eating well doesn’t mean eating a lot; it means eating right. Do you eat a lot of fast or fried food? If so, try cutting back and sticking to salads and plates of food that consist mainly of vegetables. it’s amazing how much healthier you will FEEL after switching to a better diet.
3. Do you drink alcohol? If so, make sure it is in moderation, which is one to two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women. Drinking alcohol in small doses can be very good for the heart, but too much can have the opposite effect.
* Implementing fitness into your lifestyle
Now that we’ve figured out whether or not you are healthy to begin with, it’s time to implement fitness into your daily lifestyle. Health & fitness, as we’ve said, are not mutually exclusive, and this is very important. Start by walking – at a brisk pace – for ten minutes a day without stopping. Increase this to fifteen minutes after a week, and twenty minutes after a month. Walking is a great entry point to fitness, and is actually a lot easier on the body than running, you could even consider joining a health and fitness club in order to achieve your goals more quickly.
Once you’ve gotten into the routine of walking for fitness for a while, it may be smart to join a health & fitness studio and work with a personal trainer to achieve your fitness goals. If you stick to it, you will no doubt start feeling healthier.
