Followers eat grapefruit with every meal; meals consist of protein cooked in butter and vegetables. The diet lasts for 12 days, but followers can repeat the cycle so long as they go off it for 2 days. Drinking lots of water is important.

Atkins Diet

Atkins calls for very low levels of carbohydrates, especially in the initial two-week induction phase. Though it’s classified as a fad diet, its focus is on sustained, long-term weight loss. Yet most people never get past the induction phase, which calls for less than twenty grams of carbohydrates per day. Followers can eat as much meat, cheese, and eggs as they want, but they must cut out most carbs like breads, pasta, rice, and all sugar. It’s incredibly difficult to stay on this diet.

Many diets restrict followers to a few foods or types of foods, which can lead to nutritional deficiencies if people aren’t careful. Diets very high in protein may be dangerous for those with kidney problems. There’s also a more mundane risk: the diets are boring. It’s monotonous having to eat only a few things for every meal, so people are likely to cheat and undermine any progress.

People who have medical issues need to be especially careful when trying a quick weight loss diet. They should always consult a doctor before beginning any new regime. And of course, these diets are not the keys to long-term weight loss; that comes from eating healthy, well-balanced, and nutritious meals.
