Outdoor Fitness

There is nothing more refreshing than open air and sunlight.  Outdoors fitness is not just for the physical education class in grade school anymore.  Outdoor exercise is the easiest, cheapest way for people of all ages to get the cardio and strength training needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  There are many benefits to exercising outside the house, outside the gym and away from the television and video game machines.

One of the leading health problems in today’s society is obesity, both the adult and childhood versions of the disease.  Hundreds of channels on the television set and millions of available video games tend to keep people indoors and stuck in a seated position.  Outdoor fitness training does not need to be difficult, painful or done for long periods of time.  Though most outdoor exercise enthusiasts continuously push themselves just as they would inside the gym, the average Joe need not start out with a strenuous routine.  Getting outside for a short walk around the block is an excellent way to lead your family away from a sedentary lifestyle.  There is even outdoor fitness equipment that allows you to improve your workout outside.

Though parents may find themselves in an epic battle to tear their children away from the television or video games, it is important to remember small steps will lead the way to a healthier lifestyle for the entire family.  A simple break of 10-15 minutes per day is a good way to start the shift from indoor living and a healthy outdoor fitness program.  There are many outdoor fitness games that help make it fun for kids and make them want to get outside and fit.

Always try to make time to get outside for a brisk walk or jog around the block or neighborhood two to three times per week.  This small step will lead the way to longer and longer walks with variations of routine.  As you take these small, beginning steps, always try to include your children.  Pushing the little guys in a stroller around the park is excellent exercise also; don’t just walk to the park and sit, stay in motion as much as you are comfortable with.

The beauty of exercise, whether done indoors or out, is the more frequently you practice the more you can do.  Regular cardiovascular exercise will strengthen your muscles, expand your lungpower and allow you to introduce strength training into your cardio routines.  With a little effort and initiative, you and your family will be well on your way to a healthier lifestyle that includes outdoor fitness as part your day.
