There are many misconceptions about weight loss exercises and what is effective. Unfortunately, people who are trying to lose weight are often desperate enough to listen to just about anything, and instead of verifying information or looking at the data to be sure everything adds up, they simply throw themselves at a weight loss exercise in hopes that hard work will make it effective. This leads to disappointment and, eventually, the individual giving up on trying to lose weight. Here are some of the most prevalent myths when it comes to weight loss exercises:
You Can Target Certain Areas For Rapid Weight Loss
This is simply not true. The body does not work that way. When the body begins to burn fat, it does so in an even fashion, with no regard to the areas that have been “targeted”. However, what one can do is build up muscle mass by targeting certain areas, which may help make that area more aesthetically pleasing. This will result in a build-up, however, as opposed to a slimming down, and muscle is always under fat. This is not to say that targeting specific areas will not cause weight loss. Any exercise is good. However, targeted bodybuilding should not be considered a weight loss exercise.
Cardiovascular Is The Only Type Of Weight Loss Exercise
This is similar to the previous myth, only on the opposite side of the spectrum. Every type of exercise will result in burned calories, and as long as more calories are burned than taken in, the result should be weight loss. Cardiovascular is the single most effective exercise for weight loss, but the most effective exercise routine would include cardiovascular in addition to strength training, flexibility training, and any other type of exercise that sounds palatable to the individual. This allows more to be done since different muscle groups will get worked, lessening fatigue, and increasing overall calories burned.
Weight Lost From Surgical Methods Always Returns
In a healthy adult that just needs to lose twenty to thirty pounds or so, this is generally correct. However, there are many cases where a certain amount of weight needs to be lost before exercise can be considered healthy. In these cases, surgical methods are both effective, and faster than traditional weight loss methods. Anything that will get an obese patient exercising is nothing but good, and sometimes surgery is the best option. This is, however, only in extreme cases, and only with the goal of making weight loss exercises safe for the individual. The bottom line is that exercise and weight loss go hand in hand. There is no easy way to lose weight!
